MINES DISPUTE
TEBMB OF AGREEMENT r" 1 • RATIFICATION NEEDED .MEN STATE CONDITIONS ISSUE NOT YET SETTLED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright SYDNEY, Oct. 7 The Minister of Mines, Mr. A. Mair, to-day announced the terms of the agreement with the coalminers as follows: — (1) The question of pensions and special compensation provisions to be dealt with by a special tribunal to be set up by the Government. (2) The Safety Tribunal to continue its inquiry into questions of safety and health in the mines. (3) Purely industrial matters to bo referred for determination to arbitration. It is stated on behalf of the combined mining unions that the strike is not yet off, but an early resumption of work is possible provided that the formula agreed to by Mr. Mair on behalf of the New South Wales Government was implemented by other State Governments and mine-owners.
It is reported in union circles that the resumption of work is dependent upon the decision of the Enginedrivers and Firemen's Association, the members of which occupy key positions in the mines. That union served demands on the owners even more far-reaching than those of the miners.
