NAZI DEMAND

TRANSFER OF ZONES BASIS OF POPULATION DIFFICULTY OVERCOME PEOPLE SETTLING DOW By Tolefjraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received October G, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, Oct 6 A hitch occuvred at the sittings of the International Commission regarding the Czech zone to be handed over to Germany on Monday, says a message from Berlin. It is understood that agreement was difficult, as the Germans had taken a most emphatic stand, but the difficulty was finally Overcome.

It is semi-officially stated that Germany asked that the 1018 population figures bo the basis for the determination of predominantly German areas outside the four specified zones, says the Berlin correspondent of the British United Press. Ground for Demand

They maintained that the Munich agreement was "to correct injustices to th© Sudetens since 1918," therefore no solution which overlooked areas which the Czechs forcibly settled with their own people since 1918 would permit of the establishment of normal friendly relations between Berlin and Prague. The settlement must eliminate the possibility of prejudicing German-Czech relations, which could not be achieved if Czech influence in this territory was overlooked.

lteuter's Berlin representative later reported that the Ambassadors' Commission had agreed that the predominantly German areas in Czechoslovakia which would be occupied by German? on Monday would be those in which there is a German majority of 51 per cent. Definition of Boundaries The Berlin official news agency reports that the Ambassadors' Commission decided that the fifth Sudeten zone, to be occupied between to-morrow and Monday, will be embraced by a line running from the north-east to the west, including Neutitschein and Hultschin, excluding Marhisch-Ostrau, thence to Troppau, Trubah, Rokitnitz, Trautenau, Gablonz, Beichenberg, Lietmeritz, Lobositz and Dux. thence southward to Brux and Saaz, passing westward of Pilsen to Bischoffeinitz and west of Taus, thence south-east to Winterberg and Krumau. In the south, troops will also advance to a line between Znaim and Nicholsburg, and also to Engerau, opposite Pressburg (Bratislava).

The Times' Berlin correspondent says it appears the area does not materially differ from that fixed at Godesberg. Hitler Revisits District German troops entered Zone 4 at 7 a.m. to-day. Herr Hitler left Berlin this morning to revisit Sudetenland in the vicinity of Leobau. The correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, in a message from Eger, says that after a tour of Zone 3, now oc--cupied, he found everyone trying to return to normal and shops were opening. Although there were many signs that a large proportion of the population had fled, except for the number of troops there was nothing to show that anything abnormal had ' occurred in Eger and Carlsbad. There is still no work in important factories and mines. Speaking in the House of Lords, Earl Stanhope, President of the Board of Education, revealed that the timetable for the evacuation of the Sudeten areas was devised by Viscount Halifax.
