MAORI CELEBRATIONS

CORONATION ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTES TO KING KOROKI fFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HUNTLY. Thursday The celebration of the fifth anniversary of the coronation of King Koroki will take place this week-end when *lt is expected that one of the largest gatherings" of Maoris will be present at Waahi Pa, Huntly West. Many visitors will assemble from all parts of the country, including the East Coast, Kotorua and Taranaki districts.

In view ot the general election campaign it is expected that the Maoris will show added interest in the celebrations, and meetings for the purpose of discussions among the various tribes will take place. A Rugby football match will be held on Saturday between Ngati-Pikiao (Rotoite holders) and Waikato Combined (challengers) for the Coronation Shield. The match should be of considerable interests as representatives of the 1938 Maori All Blacks are to be included in both teams. A curtain-raiser to this match will be played between Kohanga (South Auckland) and Moerangi (Waikato). Both matches will be played on Da vies Park, Huntly. Sports will be held at Waahi Pa, Huntly West, during Saturday afternoon, including several basketball matches.
