A'Napier harbour board diver was •' engaged this morning at appoint about 30 yards out to sea from the western end of the, new wharf abutment, which is being constructed at the breakwater. The police understood that the rifle was ' thrown there about midnight on Sunday. Diving operations were carried out -j-y , in the presence of Detective-Sergeant . H. Nuttall. The weapon was recovered. It is reported that the police have • discovered the bullet, which is alleged to have caused Mrs. Aves' death. It -• was found lodged near the front door of the house. Mrs. Aves' funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon. > 1 An inquest was opened before the " ■ district coroner, Mr. J. Miller, S.M., this afternoon, and adjourned after formal evidence of identification had been given by George Oliver Craike, son of deceased, who had lived with V - his mother. The inquest will be reopened in conjunction with the police proceedings against Colin Herbert Hercock, the young grocer's assistant from Waipawa, who gave himself up to the \■> police in the early hours of yesterday morning and who was remanded in Napier yesterday: on a charge of attempted murder. He will appear in the Napier Magistrate's Court again next Monday. - "•
