TOURING GOLFER
AN IMPRESSION OF LOCKE * — ' - Bobby Locke, open golf champion of South Africa, defeated George Naisniith, Australia, 'in an exhibition match in Melbourne last week. A Avriter in a Melbourne paper commented as follows: — t " x Locke, who is tall and slight, has a beautiful. fullNfree swing. He is long with his woods and irons. He hits his iron shots crisply, and takes a divot, but in this match the ball seemed to run on a lot after it hit the turf. When bunkered he favoured a shot that was more of a chip than an explosion, and did not seem to have nearly the control of his ball with bunker-shots as did Sarazen, Hagen, other firstclass overseas players, who have visited Melbourne. His accuracy and his methods on the greeus were the; most interesting features of his ganie. He takes considerable care in a preliminary examination of>;his putt, and then' walks to. one side ana takes a couple;6f quick prac-. tice swings with his' putter. Then, without any fuss,, he walks to his bair and quickly taps it into'the hole. His style is unusual, , but very effective. Locke favours clubs with a flat lie, and his woods have-very shallop faces.
