ILL-TREATMENT OF PIGS
"IN WRETCHED CONDITION" • FINE OF £2 IMPOSED [by telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Tuesday A charge of ill-treating pigs was preferred against Wihi Toki in the Opbtiki Police Court-to-day. Sergeant I. Isbister said that as a result of an anonymous telephone' .message he visited accused's place and found some pigs in a small enclosure practically swimming in mud and in a wretched condition.. Two had died just before he arrived. There was no" indication that the pigs had been fed and they had no shelter the weather, which was bad at tho time. Accused was working in 1 the borough." A girl' told witness slid fed the pigs, sometimes, but she did not .know when,, was fined £2 and costs.:
