MAORIS FINED AT KAWHIA /•:: r f. - ' "CATTLE-THIEVING RAMPANT" [by telegraph—own correspondent] KAWHIA, Tuesday Three Maoris, J. Herbert. J. Tikinia nnd/E. Hepi, of Kinohaku, were charged with the theft of two calves, the property of M. Green, in the Police Court to-day, before Mr. G. G. Jonathan and Mr. C. R. Morris. J.P.'s. Tikinia and Herbert were each fined,£s and,costs, and Hepi was fined £2 and costs. *" '' \ : \ The justices pointed out that cattlethieving apparently was rampant in tho district, and stated that they hoped these convictions woidd act as deterrents to others.
