STREET APPEAL
OVER £3OO OBTAINED COMBINED COLLECTION " REMARKABLY GOOD RESULT " - DOGS ASSIST WORKERS The sum of £303 was raised yesterday by a combined street appeal in aid of the funds of the Victoria League and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Auckland). This amount will be divided equally between the two bodies. Among the army of collectors were several dogs, to whose backs collection boxes were strapped. Tho sum of £4l was collected by the dogs alone, two of them collecting almost £l4 each. Several bank notes were included in the donations. " It was a remarkably good result," said Mr. Spencer 11. Mason, president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "It is nearly £IOO better than the society's collection of 1937, wnen the appeal was made by the society'alone." The following organisations assisted in the appeal:—The Union of Jewish Women, the Community Sunshine Association, the St. John Ambulance Association, the Thames Old Girls' Association, the Home Service Association, the.' Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, tho Akarana Maoris Association, the Auckland Surf and Life-saving Association and Brain's Commercial College girls.
