MATINEE TROTTING MEETING AT EPSOM TO-DAY BY ABAYDOS The benefit to young and maiden horses of race experience at Matinee meetings has been well borne out since they were inaugurated in Auckland by the Trotting Owners. Trainers and Breeders' Association, and many pacers and trotters educated in this manner to race requirements have graduated to good class. Some very promising and well-bred young. horses are to appear at the matinee meeting at Alexandra Park this .afternoon and fine weather, is all that should be required to ensure a very successful gathering. Providing conditions are favourable, Nervie's Last will attempt to lower his free-leggel mile record of 2.4 2-5, established a year ago. A number of fine trophies have been donated by A. Kohn, Ltd., Dominion Breweries, Ltd., New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., Horace Bull, Ltd., Blomfield and Co., Thames Trotting Club, Mr. Scott Ramsay and Mrs. E. E. Cresscy. Tho first race will start at 2 p.m. WILLOW WAVE INJURED CAREER MAY BE ENDED Willow Wave, winnor of the Auckland Trotting Cup, while running in. a paddock recently, came in contact with A fence and cut one leg so soverely that the bone was exposed. Indeed, his injuries are so serious that he may not race again. Although his barrier manners made him unreliable, he was a brilliant stayer, and at the beginning of the season, was tile second most-tightly handicapped pacer in training. MILE TROTTING RECORD GREYHOUND'S LATEST FEAT 1 _ (Received September SO, 8.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 30 At Lexington, Kentucky, Greyhound lowered his own world's trotting record for a mile from 1.56 to 1.551. The previous record was Peter Manning's 1.56J, which stood from 1922 until it was broken just over a year ago by Greyhound.
