"VERY PROPER POLICEMAN" WOMAN MOTORIST'S MISTAKE A fine of £lO, with a guinea costs, was imposed at Westminister., London, upon a woman motorist for attempting to bribe a policeman. Police-Constable John Samuels said that he spoke to her at Brompton Road regarding an obstruction caused by her ear, and asked to see her driving licence and insurance certificate. She produced the log book, and with her left hand placed.a 10s note on the top of it extending both toward him. He called another officer who was standing by in plain clothes, and said: "What is this for madame?" at the same time holding up the note. She replied: "Wouldn't you rather have that instead?" He said ho should take it and report the facts. Then she said: "Have I done anything wrong? Aren't you allowed to tip a policeman in London?" The woman said that she gave the officer the the 10s note because she thought it the right thing to do. He had been ''hanging about" a long time because of her car.
