INCREASE IN BIRTHS
AUCKLAND STATISTICS MARRIAGES TOTAL 262 A marked increase In the number of births as compared with last month and the same month last year is shown in the Auckland vital statistics for September. The total number of births registered was 268 for the month, 30 more than in September, 1937, and 42 more than in August. Births for the year number 2167, as compared with 2024 for thp same period last year. I The number of deaths for September was 239, a decrease of 11 on August, when the total was the highest since November, 1918. There were 220 deaths 1n; September, 1937, total for the year to datje of 1835 shows an increase of 169 over last year's total for the same period, J'; /There was also a considerable increase in the number of marriage nStice3 issued last month, the total of 282; being 40 in excess of the figures for September last year. Marriages by the registrar were 56, the same number as finfSeptember, 1937. For the first nine months of this year, 2255 marriage notices were issued, exceeding last year's corresponding total by 214.
