NEW CARGO STEAMER
KOROWAI DUE TO-NIGHT UNION COMPANY VESSEL her first visit to Auckland, tho Union Company's new cargo steamer Korowai will arrive to-night from Melbourne. Tho Korowai, which is under the command of Captain F. W. Collins, was built by Alexander Stephen and Sons, Limited, at Linthousc, Glasgow, and launched in May. She reached Wellington last month on her maiden voyage. A single-screw steamer of 2560 tons gross, tho Korowai is of the single deck typo with poop, bridge and forecastle. She has three hatches, two forward and one aft of tho engine space, which are served by 12 derricks and gear designed for tho rapid handling of cargo. Tho propelling machinery consists of triple-expansion engines giving an average speed of 10 knots at sea in all weathers.
