TAKAPUNA GRAMMAR
MANUAL TRAINING A QUESTION OF POLICY "There arc many boys who are not clever academically, and I think they should be given the opportunity to develop their manual dexterity," said Mr. C. R. Munroe, at a meeting of the Grammar School Board yesterday, when additional technical equipment for the Tnkapuna Grammar School was discussed. The matter arose from a letter from the headmaster, Mr. K. J. Dellow, stating it was desirable that the metalwork room should ■be extended, tho estimated cost being £I3OO. Boys taking an industrial course might then proceed to the handling of machinery, and the activities of the school might also be extended to special night classes for young men from the Narrow Neck military c.lmp. Tho chairman, Dr. E. Robcrton, said lie thought the matter was one for more serious consideration, and added that, if necessary, a new technical school should be established on the North Shore. On his motion, it was decided that, as a question of policy was involved, a report on the matter from the Department of Education, with special reference to the Takapuna Gramm ir School, should bo requested.
