Tho recent winds having finned up tho «rass tracks, all the fast work took place on the plough. Pink Robe. who js engaged in the Geraldine Cup, galloped a mile in 1.46, with the assistance of Adina over part of the journey. Pink Robe has sot through some good solftl work. New Note, Gusto, the Pink Terrace colt, Straight Del, Our Pal, Atua Rose, Norseman and Dissemble. Nigger Boy Contracts Cold Nigger Boy developed a cold on the journey to Ashburton and showed evidence of it oil the morning of the race. Nevertheless, he was started, and went well for about 3-J furlongs. Pink Robe has twice been worked over a mile and a-quarter recently and this morning over more than a mile. She is doing well and it should not be for lack of condition if she fails in tho Geraldine Cup. However, she is a big mare and may be handicapped by the turning track and a small boy pilot. Alma works quietly on the track and the fact of her not pulling may help to stay a mile and a-quarter in the Geraldine Cup. However, she will probably bo better suited over less ground.

TAKANINI TRAINING PROGRESS OF VALIMEEN PLANS FOR E. POPE'S TEAM Although the grass was open for work at Takanini yesterday morning, the tasks of horses not raced at Avondale were mainly of the useful order, while the winners were having an easy tinio after registering six firsts and two thirds at the meeting. E. Pope states that the proposed Marton trip for members of his team has been abandoned. The present intention is for Anopheles to fulfil her Welcome Stakes engagement at filerslie and the Wellesley Stakes. The filly has done well since last Saturday's classic victory.

It is probable that Maxain, who finished third in the Spring Handicap on Monday, will bo a competitor at Paeroa next week. High Quality has been getting through some of his work on the plough, and he will probably bo forward enough to return to hurdle racing toward the end of the spring. Bon Star is to be tried over hurdles shortly. The two-vear-old Glenconnell is making advancement in his preparation by J. Cruse, who also has Mia Acrea ready for schooling tasks during next week. Mia Acrea has done well on road work during the winter. British Sovereign and Inquisitor were companions over a circuit of the grass yesterday, both hitting out boldly in the run up the straight. Gold Petal, a candidate for Ohinemuri, worked over a round at a solid pace, and. has improved in appearance since racing at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. Romani, who has joined the list of geldings since winning at Thames last season, is again being worked into racing condition. Valimeen has had a light preparation so far. There is not a great deal of this speedy three-year-old and sho has been handled patiently. Hunter's Rose is one of C. Morse's team who displays encouraging pace. Anion is still missing from tho active list.

A. Tinker is keeping Bachelor King and Dauber at solid work, and the former should soon bo ready to make a reappearance at racing. It is probablo that Orelio will be taken to Trentham next month should he come well through his Welcome Stakes engagement. The initial successes of the local apprentices, 11. Hatwell and G. W. Smith, were very well received at Takauini, where both youths have been doing a largo share of riding work. A start has been made this week with early morning work, the track now being opened at 5.30 a.m. W. Patcrson's health, which has not been of the best for some time, lias again compelled him to remain indoors under medical treatment.
