WOKK FOE HAMILTON GIFTS TO MR. AND MRS. FOW TRIBUTE FROM CITIZENS fFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Tuesday "Mr. Four's public life has been remarkable for his devotion to duty, respect for other people's opinions, absolute selflessness, and the saving grace of humour," said Mr. A. E. Manning at a public function held in honour of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Fow,' at Hamilton this afternoon. Mr. Fow has been a member of the Hamilton Borough Council for over 30 years, during many of which he served as Mayor. Ho retired from the Mayoralty in May. The Mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, presided over an attendance which filled the council chamber to overflowing. Mr. C. A. Barrell, M.P. for Hamilton, members of the council and a representative gathering of citizens were present.

Mr. Caro outlined Mr. Fow's services, and paid a tribute to the assistance Mrs. Fow had given to him. During Mr. Fow's term of office Hamilton had grown from an unkempt villago to one of the finest towns in Now Zealand, and during most of that time ho had been at the helm guiding its' destinies.

Mrs. H. C. Ross presented Mrs. Fow with an engraved silver tea and coffee service as a token of appreciation from the ladies of Hamilton. Mr. W. H. Paul handed Mr. Fow an enlarged photograph and a cheque.

Mr. Barrell said Mr. Fow had set an example which all public men in New Zealand could emulate with advantage. Replying, Mr. Fow said he had been very happy in public life and he thanked the members of tho council, tho staff and other local body representatives for their co-operation and support. The relations between him and them had always been exceedingly harmonious. Ho wished to 'express thanks for the wonderful kindness he and his wife and family had received over since they had been in Hamilton.
