MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS
DEVONPORT BOROUGH PLAN [BT TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, "Wednesday Authority is contained in an amendment to the Local Legislation Bill for the Devonport Borough Council to spend £SIOO 011 municipal buildings. In November last year certain land vested in the borough was taken by the Crown for housing purposes, the borough being paid £-5100 as the purchase price. The law provides that money received from the sale of endowment lands shall he applied toward the purchase of other lands. The council, however, does not desire to purchase an additional area as there is little suitable land available in the borough, but desires to utilise the proceeds for the construction of municipal buildings. The necessary authority is given by the clause. Another amendment ..validates an agreement entered into between the Hamilton Borough Council and the Crown under which the council has agreed to transfer to the Crown an area of 22 acres, vested in it as an endowment in aid of borough funds for the purposes of laying out a garden suburb under the Government housing proposals.
