FAST GALLOPS

SEVEN-FURLONG TRIALS KILONSA AND VALMINT SHINE RINGSHOT SHADES PHILCOURT JAYOLA PERFORMS PLEASINGLY Some interesting work was witnessed in tho semi-final gallops at Ellerslie yesterday morning, when outstanding efforts over seven furlongs went to the credit of Kilonsa, Valmint, Ringshot and Phileourt. A fast six furlongs was accomplished bv Jayola, while Trilliareli and Marie's Acre went best over five. The No. 2 grass track provided excellent going. There was nothing between Kilonsa (MeTavish) and Valmint (Messervy) at the end of seVen furlongs in 1.30 4-5, the first half-mile being run in 51 4-ss. It was an attractive effort and both finished very soundly without being ridden out. it was Valmint's best effort to date and he should be prominent in his second day engagement at Avondale.

Tybalt (Tonks) was let off with an easy five furlongs ii: 1.(3. lie looks well and is engaged on Moiulay. Kelly (Gilchrist) sprinted in fine style over three furlong,s to record 3(3 3-ss. He finished with rare dash and is in great order. After running the first two in 255, Fleetwind (Gilchrist) completed five furlongs in 1.3 3-u. Eudoraco (Hearne) was going comfortably throughout three furlongs in -10s. Bonnybellc (Treinain) just led Tip Toes (Clarke) at the end of half a mile in 51 l-ss. Tip Toes appeared to have a little in hand at the finish.

Vaalsstar (Coon) beat Lady Defoo (Gilchrist) and Electric Spear over six furlongs in' 1.17, the first three being run in 38s. It was a creditable effort and Vaalsstar finished nicely. Hunting -Maid (Tremain) covered half' a niilo easily in 55 4-os. but was showing signs of lameness alter pulling up.

Mai de Mer and Palmint" Electric Flash (Stokes) was timed to complete the last seven furlongs of a round in 1.30 3-5. Mai de .Mer (Jones) finished slightly in front of Palmint I Gilchrist), with High Star (Fearn) further back, at the conclusion of iivo furlongs in 1.4, tho first two taking 25 4-ss.

Mai do Mer is displaying improvement with every gallop, while Palmint, who tailed off in the early stages, finished very strongly over the Ijisfc furlong. After displaying a lot of early speed, High Star was being eased up at tho finish.

Knight of Australia (Tremain) and Wee Put (Stokes) traversed a round in 1.50, the last four furlongs in 545. Knight of Australia was going comfortably at the finish to be on terms wit In his companion, who was slightly lamo afterward.

Haekenschmidt (Nicholson) and Summary (Coon) hit out freely in a short sprint down the straight. Shy (Nicholson) and Clieval do Voice (James) camo home the last threo furlongs of steady work over a round in 39 4-ss. Both moved attractively and wcro keen to go faster. In a similar task, Hot Shot (Fenrn) registered 40 4-os. He is doing well and is a nice mover. Atta Jack (Jones) finished in front of Arniacourt (August) at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.21 2-5, the first two taking 26 3-ss. Armacourt did not display her usual dash. Birthday Boy (Markwiclc) and Glen Abb (Fearn) were on terms at tho end of half a mile in 50s. Birthday Boy was doing it well at tho finish and appears a good galloper. King Musk (Ritchie) ran seven furlongs in 1.31 1-5. the last six in 1.20. Gamosa (Fearn) went freely in a sprint down the straight. Round by El Mevnell

Fidelis (Jones) finished well nt the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.4 1-5, the last four in 51s. El Meynell (Markwick) was responsible for a solid gallop over a round in 1.44, running the last seven furlongs in 1.31 3-5. El Meynell moved very freely throughout and, although he could not have dono better/ it was a sound performance and drow further attention to his chance in the Avondale Cup. Avail (Kerr) and Beeswing (Jones) finished together in front of Bright Idea (Buchanan) at the end of half a mile in 53 2-ss. After running the first two in 25 4-ss, Paint (Gilchrist) finished well to complete five furlongs in 1.4 3-5.

Lighter (Messervy) strode over a round in 1.52, the last six furlongs taking 1.24. Silver Quex (Gilchrist) displayed her customary speed by running iive furlongs in 1.3 1-5, the first two in 21 4-ss. The best six furlongs was that of Jnyola (Fearn), who bent Hessketoon (.Jones) by several lengths over six furlongs in 1.15 4-5. It was an impressive performance on tho part of Jayola, who displayed improvement on his previous efforts.

Ohmaha (McGrath) was going well within himself at tlio conclusion of six furlongs in 1.17, after beginning from practically a standing start. Ohmaha is in fine fettle, and should give a good account of himself at Avondale.

Marhckc (Gilchrist) was not troubled to run half a mile in 55 4-ss. The fullsister to Martara is thriving on tlio ensy tasks being allotted her, and is developing into an attractive maro. Dark Legion (Cameron) and Royal Messago (Fearn) were associated over three furlongs in 41 l-ss. Royal Message was going tho better at tho finish, but Dark Legion ran a bit green in the straight.

Surella Shows Dash Knightsbridge (Messervy) was travelling better than To Maranui (Cammick) at the end of five furlongs in 1.5, the last three in 39 l-ss. Tupeotu (Gilchrist) concluded useful work by sprinting threo furlongs in 38s. After running the first threo in 37 l-ss, Pirapy (Markwick) and Konspcckle, (Trcmain) were easing tip at the finish of six furlongs in 1.19. Surella (Jones) sprinted three furlongs in fine stylo in 36 l-ss. Ringshot (Gilchrist) and Philcourt (Messervy) were responsible for the best seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5, tho first four taking 50 4-ss. Both were kicked up at the finish, with Hingshot doing slightly tho better. Ringshot's effort indicated improvement, and drew attention to his prospects in tlio Champion. Hack Plate on Saturday. Trilliarch (Messervy) just shaded Marie's Acre (Cammick), with Gloucester (Gilchrist) several lengths away, at the end of a smart five furlongs in 1.3, the first two being run in 255. Trilliarch went well, and Marie's Aero finished on strongly when kicked lip in tho concluding stages. Sly Pox Very Bright

On the tan, the recent arrival Sly Fox (Olive) worked over seven furlongs at tliroot)uarter puce. Sly Fox is bearing a bright and muscular appearance alter his Wanganui racing. Wee Pat (Stokes) cleared two of the hurdles in the initldio in good style. Baldric (O'Connor) negotiated two of the pony hurdles promisingly. Ulimani (Gough) and. Hawthorn (Stokes) wero to have been associated in a bout over six hurdles, but Hawthorn/ after jumping the first three well, fell heavily at tho next. Ulimani continued 011 and completed his task in satisfactory manner.

Tho novices, School Song (Gough) and Gold Land (O'Connor), cleared several of tho pony hurdles' in company in improved stylo.
