REPRESENTATIVE" GAME AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON MATCH AT ATHLETIC PARK HEAVY CONDITIONS LIKELY [by telecrapii—OWN correspondent} WELLINGTON, Friday The special effects of a long motorbus journey and play on a hard ground at -Manawatu are felt by Auckland's Hugby representatives' in facing the match with Wellington to-morrow and there is still a doubt as to how the visiting pack will lie arranged. Several players are sore as a result of tho mid-week match and it is unlikely that Prentice's injured ankle will become sound enough for this player to have another match on the tour. Bond, the hooker, in spite of leg trouble arid a facial injury, is to play against Wellington, but hopes of Pepper being available are not bright. Pepper had a thigh badly bruised against Manawaiu. Although the arrival of Drake is welcomed Auckland will find it difficult to field a pack completely fit. However, in rain which has fallen the tourists will find satisfaction, as the prospect of another hard ground experience would not have been relished. Athletic Park is soaked by rain and a strong, drying wind will be necessary to bring it into good playing condition. Auckland's preparation for the match has been confined to a run in the rain and exercise in a gymnasium, but hopes are entertained that the team will show the combination against Wellington that was lacking aglifnSf Manawatu. In this match the Auckland backs were inclined to play as individualists. Solomon and Dick are duo in the morning and will lend added confidence and ability to the Auckland side.

Another of the Wellington selector's surprises hub been sprung jn the choice of Pollock as fullback, it having been expected that either Fleming or Griffiths, who is 10, be transferred to Wanganui, would bo chosen. As this match is regarded as an important preliminary to Wellington's bid r for the Kanfurly Shield next Saturday, it would appear that. Pollock, Tindill and Lambourn, who are not avaiiablo for the southern . tour, may all be sent specially for the shield match. Some disappointment has been ex-• pressed that Griffiths was not given an opportunity in the match with Auckland to make his last appearance for Wellington. The teams are as follows: Auckland. —Backs: Solomon, Dick, Grant*. Martin, Brady, Pearman, Cooney;., forwards, < Brown, Bond, Pepper, McLean, Lange, Hull,' Whillans, Drake. Emergencies: Donaldson. Pile. Galloway, Knight. If Pepper is not available Hull will go to the front row, Whillans replacing him and Drake taking the flank position with Galloway back row. Wellington.—Backs: Pollock, Wright,. FuJ- , ton, Edwards, Jones, Sargisson, Tindill; forwards, Clayton, Lamboura, Hegglun, Todd, Fraser-Smith, Griffin, Gunn, Wales. Emerg- > - encies: Veitch, O'Halloran, Burns, Pringle, Gilmour, Burke. The referee will be Mr. H. B. Simmons, Wellington. Auckland and Wellington have "met in Rugby contests 56 times. Auckland has , slightly the better record, having won 28 matches, while Wellington has taken the honours on 26 occasions. Two matches have been drawn. Seventeen of Auckland's successes were trained on its home frtound .and 1 1 in Wellington. The Wellington team's , record is somewhat similar, 16 games having; ' been won at home, while 10 of its victories?were gained in Auckland. AUCKLAND COLTS TEAM

GAME WITH THAMES VALLEY/ EDEN PARK CONTEST TO-DAY A Rugby team of Auckland colts, compris- .J; ing players of 21 years of age and nnder.M' will oppose the Thames Valley representative', fifteen at Eden Park this afternoon. That the local combination should give the visit- ' ing side a hard tussle is reflected in the team's success in defeating the Hamilton . representatives at Hamilton last Saturday. The fifteen gave a good display on that ocI casion and it is expected that it will re- ! produce its form in the match to-day. Most of the members of the Auckland team are players in senior club' sides, and have shown much promise throughout the season. The forwards are a virile lot with an average weight of about 13st. ; According to a message received last night | from the Paeroa correspondent of the Hebald ; several members of the originally selected Thames Valley team are not available on : account of sickness or inability to leave work. Consequently, the selector, Mr. D. G. McMillan, had to alter the team. Childs has influenza and his place on the wing will be taken by Hanan, of Paeroa.
