PINNED BY FIREWOOD
FARMER FATALLY INJURED WIFE'S TRAGIC DISCOVERY VERDICT OF ASPHYXIATION [I3T TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] OTOROHANGA, Sunday When he was pinned under a load of firewood yesterday, an Otorohanga farmer suffered fatal injuries. The victim was:— Mr. Francis Byrne, aged 51, of Waitoino Valley Road, Otorohanga. Mr. Byrne left his home at 10 a.m. with a sledge and a team of horses to obtain a load of firewood at the back of the farm, about a mile distant. When he had not returned at 2 p.m. his wife became anxious and set out to look for him.
Mrs. Byrne saw the horses standing still and found her husband pinned under a ton of firewood, which had fallen off the sledge. On removing the timber she found that her husband was dead.
At the inquest held before the coroner, Mr. C. Tucker, to-day, a verdict was returned that death was due to asphyxia. Mr. Byrne served in the Great War with the Imperial forces. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
