DOMINION TOURNEY SOME CLOSE CONTESTS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] TIMARU, Thursday Cold and showery weather prevailed for the third day of the Dominion basketball championships. The courts were slippery and militated against good play. Tho first A grade game of the day saw Southland defeat Hawke's Bay by one goal, which was scored after the call of, time. This is (he second occasion during the tournaInent 011 which Hawke's Bay lost a game after time had been called. Better combination in the concluding stages decided tho issue in favour of Southland. Considering the conditions the same between Wellington and Canterbury was a splendid one.. Both teams threw the ball about freely in spite of tho wet court and scoring fluctuated in a manner which invested the match with a great deal of interest. Canterbury was one down a minute before time, but managed to draw level just before the bell sounded. South Canterbury continued its winning way by defeating Wairarapa by 14 to 7. Southland Minor scored two good wins and is now one point behind South Canterbury. Each team has played tho same number of games, but Southland had a draw. In tho third grade Bush has now had six wins in six games. West Coast is next with 10 points and Wanganui has nine, but tho latter has played one game less than the leaders. Kesults of matches are as follows: First Grade. —Wellington, 11, Canterbury, 11; Southland, 11, Hawke's Bay, 13: Otago, 12, Auckland, 7.

Second Grade.—Southland Minor, 10, Waikato, 14; Ashburton, 15 Hutt Valley, G; South Canterbury, 17, Wanganui. 6; Manawntu, Ks, Wairoa, 10.
