COUNTY SCHEME OPPOSED * ! A decision to hold the annual regatta and children's picnic and sports | at "the New Year was made at the ? annual meeting of the Omiha Welfare ? and Recreation Society, held at Rooky :: Bay, Waiheke. As there was a fair c-ash balance it was suggested that the j main beach should be fenced and * planted with trees. The society's finis ancial: position was shown to be sound but the support of a much larger number of residents was urged.
The report referred to a suggestion by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the I Hon. W. E. Parry, that the island | should be constituted a county and | public, works carried out. A meeting | of residents had been held at Ostend t in July and it was decided to postpone t further action until next February, as the proposal was considered to be ahead f,' of its time and impracticable at pre- | sent 7 . A -petition against the proposal 4 was circulated at Omiha and was signed by three-quarters of the prot perty owners.
