RHINE _FRONTIER HITLER'S _NEW MOVE INSPECTION OF FORTS AN ALL-DAY TOUR FRENCH MANOEUVRES By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, August 20 ITerr Hitler arrived unexpectedly at the French frontier at Keh!, opposite Strasbourg, to which all traffic is suspended, says a message from that city. The frontier is closed.
The Fuehrer, accompanied by eight generals, inspected the fortifications at the bridgehead and left in the direction of Offenburg. Storm troopers were mobilised to maintain order. Herr Hitler's all-dav tour extended over 90 miles along the banks of the Rhine and neighbourhood, where important fortifications are being constructed, says the Daily Telegraph. The inspection was marked by extraordinary secrecy. All telephone calls from TiOndon were intercepted at tin; German end.
French military manoeuvres on a largo scale, though not comparable with Germany's current operations, will be begun to-morrow on the Swiss frontier, states a message from Paris. The troops will experiment in mobility by employing 100 Paris street omnibuses and civilian organisations for the purpose of studying the utility of buses in view of the possibilities of evacuating Paris of civilians in war time.
