Although the weather was inclined to be changeable during the morning, with intermittent showers, the sun shone brightly before mid-day and it was not until after tho players had returned that moro heavy rain occurred. There was yet another sensation when T. Wallace, of Botorua, did a one at the ninth, a difficult hole of about 200 yards. Grant, Napier, who is fourth, also improved three strokes on tho second round, while his team-mate, H. J.' Smith, returned a 68 against a 73 on the Tirst day.

Herrold, of Whakatane,. also failed badly t«-day. C. H. Redhead, ltotorua, with an IS handicap, qualified with rounds of 72 and 69, but subsequently withdrew. The holder of the cup, A. W. Downer, of Botorua, improved three strokes on his first round and qualified with a 143, but last year's runner-up, D. MacCormick, Auckland, was relegated to the Arikikapakapa Cup section on the count back with a 147.
