Hassett Bats Stylishly Hassett, who found the wicket to ' his liking, drove and pulled stylishly. • McCabe fell cheaply. Ho has often • fallen lately through apparent carelessness or staleness. Tho morning's play was languorous. • Hassett and Brown continued batting after lunch and then, after a stay of .115 minutes at tho wickets, Hassett touched a ball from Hammond and it trickled on to his off stump and just dislodged the bail. Brown continued batting soundly, but spent half an hour getting four , runs for his 50, which ho completed in two hours. It was a model innings as regards stroke production. Waite was not altogether comfortable, but played occasional good strokes. Brown scored more briskly after tea till an v excellent delivery from Wood took tho top of his off stump. He batted for 160 minutes and his score included two fours. Sussex Batsmen Confident Stainton and John Langridge scored ■quickly for Sussex and played out time in spite of the fact that four bowlers were tried.
