SALVAGE OF TUG
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS FINAL MOVEMENT INSHORE REFLOATING ATTEMPT TO-DAY The sunken tug To Awhina was moved a further 300 ft. inshore yesterday to a position 30ft. from the Western Viaduct and parallel to the Hobson Wharf. It is expected that the deck of the vessel will be above water at low tide at 2 p.m. tO-day, making pumping operations possible. Tho Harbour Board's diver is to continue repairs to fractures in the hull this morning, if conditions are suitable. An effort will be made to remove enough water from the hull to give the vessel sufficient buoyancy to float. The Harbour Board's salvage pumps, aided by tho Fire Brigade's pumping machine, will bo used for this purpose. The tug now lies cradled in stout wire slings between the two hopper barges which havo supported her since salvage operations were commenced. It is hoped to move the vessel to the Harbour Board's slip at St. Mary's Bay next week, where permanent repairs will be effected.
