' IEAST coast application [TENDERS FOR CRIiAM CARTAGE [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] OPOTIKI, Friday An application for a new licence to jcarry goods between Cape Runaway and JTe Kaha by Mr. B. Callaghan, which ;was heard by Mr. E. J. Phelan, No. 1 [Licensing Authority, is being watched .with interest by carriers all over New Zealand. Mr. Walker and Messrs. Drake Brothers opposed the application. It was explained that as a result of [tenders for cream cartage being called fry the To Kaha Co-operative Dairy Company, the successful tenderer was 3VIr. Callaghan, who now required a licence. Allegations were made that Mr. Walker, the previous contractor, yra3 unsatisfactory, while evidence was also given concerning the abnormal difficulties encountered through the Kaukokore and Kerau Rivers changing [their courses. Mr. Phelan said that figures showing ftHe full-amounts obtained from factory cartage and also running costs had to be submitted, and if the price was uneconomic the authority would not grant jfche licence. It was not proved that the jprevious contract had not carried out (.he contract satisfactorily.
