INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Pnpatoetoe.—The second birthday celebrations of the institute were held recently. Mrs. Barber presided and welcomed the guests. Talks were given by Mrs. McElwain and Mrs. Phillips, and a play was presented by membeis of the drama circle. Tho competition was won bv Mrs. McCallum. Kaipara Flats.—Mrs. Blade presided at the monthly meeting. She presented Mrs. Ranum with a table napkin ring, in appreciation of her services to the branch. Mrs. H. Hughes was elected secretary in her place. A report on the Dominion conference was given by Mrs. Tyler Davies. The competition was won by Mrs. J. Thomson, and Mrs. E. Hughes and Mrs. J. Morrison wero the hostesses.
Silverdale. —'There were many mem- J hers from neighbouring women's organisations present at the 10th birthday celebrations, held recently. Items were given by Mesdames Phillips, Horn and Mollet, "and a short play was acted, by several of the members. 'J lie hostesses wore Mesdames Sturmev, Beavis, Williams and Milicich. Horotiu. —Throe new members were welcomed at tho monthly meeting of the Horotiu institute. Mrs. Paddy gave a report on the recent Dominion conference. The competitions wore won by Mrs. Quidloy and Mrs. White. Afternoon tea was served. New Lynn.—.Members of the .Avondale Women's Club presented a play at tho monthly mooting of the Now Lynn institute. A dressmaking demonstration was given by Mrs. Grilli 11. The hostesses for the afternoon wore Mesdames Glover, C'uiiimings, George, Derbridgo and ('leaver. Albany.—The monthly meeting took the form of an international evening, many of tho members representing different countries. Mrs. Brant presided, and remits for the forthcoming group meeting were discussed. Supper was served. Paeroa.—The monthly mooting was opened by tho president, Mrs. Turton. Items wero given by .Airs. Catton and Mrs. Gloadow. and competitions More won by Mrs. Parkes and Mrs. Davies. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Fridge, Harris and Goldfinch. Kiokio. — I The president-, Mrs. Luxmore, presided at tho monthly mooting. The competition for passe-partout, workwas won by .Mrs. Lnxmoro, with Miss Marker second and Mrs. Wallace third. A demonstration of the making of lamp shades was given by Mrs. Oliver, of Otorohanga. Waimauku. —A talk on institute matters was given at the monthly mooting by Mrs. MoKlwain, who was later presented with a decorated horseshoe by the president, Mrs. Blake. Songs were sung by Mrs. Frays, mid two new members were welcomed. The winners of the competitions wore Mrs. Hunt. Mrs. Had ford, Miss J. Robins and Miss Walker. Brown's Bay.—At tho monthly mooting tho vice-presidents gave talks on the early days of Brown's Bay. Competitions wore won by Mrs. Blackwell and .Mrs. Bell. The hostesses were Mrs. Hell, Mrs. Thomson and Mrs. Stewart.
