Y.W.C.A. COMPETITIONS The Y.W.C.A. senior and junior teams will meet in a match at the Epsom Grammar ground on Saturday at 2.30 p.m. INDIANS' SUCCESS EASY WIN AT WHANGAREI [by telegraph—own correspondent] WHAXGAREI, Wednesday The touring Indian hockey team defeated Whajigarei to-day by II goals to nil. The ground, which yesterday was in splendid order, suffered as a result of ram last night and was slippery and heavy. Although the Whangarei forwards were on numerous occasions on the attack all the movements brok<; down before the ball reached the Indians circlo. Only on one occasion had the visiting goalkeeper to use his stick. The first goal came when just outside the circle the Indians were awarded a free hit and Challenger, the Whangarei goalkeeper, made a nice save ' but he v.as penalised for a knock-on, mid Gurnarain Singh shot into the net. There was a good period before the next score, and then Fernandez made a fine run up the field to goal. It was not long before Fernandez again goaled when ho secured the ball from the rebound off the pads of the Whangarei goalkeeper. The next goal came from a penalty corner, and another point was registered when Shahabuddin dribbled the ball up the field and shot successfully. A shot by Fernandez from a penalty comer went wide, but he came in again and a flick shot from within the circle succeeded. Ju«t before half-time Sulaiman scored again, making the score: —India, 7; Whangiirci, 0. The first goal in the second spell was scored bv Fernandez after a roll-in from Whancarer's' twenty-five. Then the hall went diagonally across the field into the local team's circle and Fernandez was able to flick his shot nicely into the net. From a penalty corner Ahmad Khan was next to score, and he also was the scorer of the last goal of the match. The filial score was: —India, 11; Whangarei, o • •, The mastery of the ball by the visitors was the greatest factor in their win. Thcr positional play was also greatly superior.
