ENTERTAINMENTS

ST. JAMES* THEATRE The brilliant Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical production "Rosalie," in which Nelson Eddy and Eleanor Powell have tho principal roles, will be presented today at St. James' Theatre. Princess Rosalie (Eleanor Powell) is the heir to the throne in the small Balkan kingdom of Romanza, and while in America she falls in love with a young cadet from a military academy, Dick Thorpe (Eddy). Complications ensue when Rosalie is betrothed to another man, but tbo picture is brought to a happy conclusion. Frank Morgan, Edna May Oliver and Ilona Massey appear in supporting roles. MAYFAIR THEATRE Jack Hulbert appears in the amusing and thrilling film ".Kate Plus Ten," which is included on tho outstanding double-feature programme at the Mayfair Theatre to-day. The second film is the bright modern comedy " Cafe Metropole," in which Loretta Young and Tyrone Power are prominently cast. MAJESTIC THEATRE Mickey Rooney continues the success which lie gained in "Thoroughbreds Don't Cry" with an outstanding performance in the entertaining comedy " Judge Hardy's Children," which heads the programme at the Majestic Theatre to-day. Tho story deals with the adventures in which the Hardy children become involved when their father goes to Washington as the president of a commission of investigation. The second attraction is tho drama "Lady in (he Morgue." Preston Foster, Patricia Ellis and Frank Jenks take the main roles in this absorbing mystery story. Commencing next Friday the eight finalists in the "Miss New Zealand Beauty Contest" will appear on the stage at the evening performances. CIVIC THEATRE Amusing performances are given by Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in tho modern comedy "Bringing Up Baby," which is to continue its season at the Civic Theatre to-dav. Grant appears as a studious professor, who is forced by a gay heiress (-Miss Hepburn) to join in a series of ridiculous adventures and subsequently finds himself in many amusing situations. An outstanding associate programme includes tho latest Walt Disney cartoon, while items will he given by Penn Hughes 011 the Wurlitzer organ.

REGENT THEATRE One of the most entertaining comedies to be seen for some time, "I Seo Ice," will continue its season at the Regent Theatre to-day. The popular English comedian George Form by appears in the chief role as a rather dull photographer's assistant, and gives an amusing performance when he becomes involved in many hilarious situations. EMBASSY THEATRE The charming young French actress Olympe Bradna gives a line portrayal with Gene Raymond in "Stolen Heaven," which will be shown to-day at the Embassy Theatre. With a cast headed by such talented players as Const,nice Bennett, Brian Aherne, Billie Burke and Alan Mowbray, the gay modern comedy "Merrily We Live" will commence a season at the Embassy Theatre on Thursday. An in "Topper," Miss Bennett reveals herself as an accomplished, comedienne and is well supported by Brian Aherno in the chief male lead. Billio Burke appears as a kind old lady whose hobby is tho reformation of tramps who happen to call at her door, while Alan Mowbray, also of "Topper" fame, is again cast as a butler, but is given more scope for comcdv in the present production. An excellent supporting programme of selected short features will complete a most enjoyable entertainment.

STRAND THEATRE The popular American radio personalities Edgar Bergen and his doll Charlie McCarthy arc responsible for much of the humour in Samuel Goldwvn's spectacular production " The Goldwyn Follies," which heads the current programme at the Strand Theatre. Good performances are given by the other players in the cast, which includes Adolphe Menjou, a newcomer to the screen in Zorina, Andrea Leeds, and the, entertaining comedians, the Ritz Brothers. Interesting associate features will also be shown. TIVOLI THEATRE An entertaining programme of two full-length films and three supporting features will be shown to-night at the 'J'ivoli Theatre, when guest night concessions will be available for patrons. William Gargan and Marv Churchill appear in "Alibi for Murder," while the main roles in "One Way Ticket" are taken by Lloyd Nolan and Peggy Conklin. A comedy. "Ants in the Pantry," an interesting short film, "Screen Snapshots" and a cartoon comprise the excellent associate programme. PRINCE EDWARD THEATRE Outstanding entertainment is offered patrons of the Prince Edward Theatre to-night when an excellent programme, including the comedy "The Moon's Our Home" and tlio thrilling drama "Drift Fence" will be shown. Newsreels will also be presented. LONDON CINEMA Excellent entertainment is offered today at tlio London Cinema when the enjoy a bio films "Hell Ship Morgan" and "Streamline Express" will be shown. Short features complete an excellent programme. STATE THEATRE The beautiful French actress Annabel I a appears in the outstanding film "Wings of tlio Morning," is included on the programme at the State Theatre to-night. The second film is "Music for Madame." STATE THEATRE, DEVONPORT An outstanding programme, including the interesting films "The Country Beyond" and "Blackmailer," will be shown to-night at the State Theatre, Devonport. BERKELEY, MISSION BAY A strong cast headed bv John Boles, Ida Lupino and Jack Oakio appear in "Fight for Your Lady," which is included on the current programme at the Berkeley Theatre, Mission Bay. STAR CINEMA The well-balanced programme to be presented to-day at the Star Cinema includes the drama "Souls at Sea" and the entertaining production "Border Cafe." ASTOR THEATRE "Miss Pacific Fleet"'ami "Parole" comprise the highly enjoyable programme t.o be presented at tlio Astor Theatre to-night. TUDOR CINEMA The hilarious modern comedy "She Married an Artist" heads the interesting programme which will be presented at the Tudor Cinema to-night.
