DANGEROUS DRIVING CASE PROSECUTIONS AT OTAHUHU A heavy list of traffic offences was dealt with at the Magistrate's Court at Otahuhu yesterday, when many motorists were convicted of not possessing warrants of fitness for their vehicles. A charge of dangerous driving was brought against Donnell Gerard McKendry. Inspector F. Jones stated in evidence that defendant passed him on the Great South Road near Otahuhu at a speed of 55 miles an hour. He drove through Otahuhu most of the way on his wrong side of the road. Defendant, who did not appear, was lined £-1 and 12s costs. A charge of speeding was brought against T. H. C. Caughey (Mr. Gray), who pleaded not guilty through counsel. Inspector Jones said that on Faster Monday defendant overtook him at Brown's Road, Manurewa. Defendant overtook several vehicles and passed them on Wiri Bridge, which was only 18ft. wide. Traffic was dense at the time and defendant could not pet into line. His speed was from 45 to 50 miles an hour and up to 55 at Papatoctoe school. Counsel said that evidence of cutting into traffic was not relevant to speeding charges. The inspector had done the same as defendant in following him and he was just as capablo as the inspector to drive in dense traffic. A fine of £2 10s and 10s costs was entered.
