ALBERT J, LE ROY e e MEMBER OF OLD CITY FIRM S Formerly n member of a well-known j Auckland firm, Mr. Albert James Lc Roy died at his home. -17 Prospect 2 Terrace, Mount Eden, yesterday, at the " age of 75 years. Mr. Le Hoy was iv resident of Auckland practically all his , life. ' ' Born at Parnell. Mr. Lc Pov was the second son of the late. Captain E. ' Le Pov. a prominent early Auckland business man, who founded the firm I of E. Le J?oy, Limited, 86 years ago. After receiving his primary and secondj ary education in the city Mr. Le Poy x entered his father's business and for [ 40 years until his retirement about . three years ago ho was factory [ manager. t As a young man Mr. Le Poy was an active yachting enthusiast. In later life he became a keen horticulturist and was associated in the management of a large commercial nursery. For many years lie was a member of the Mount Eden "School Committee and was later the first treasurer of the Kowhai Intermediate School Committee. Over a long period lie was associated with the Walters Poad Church of Christ and was an elder of the church. He was also a keen and accomplished amateur photographer. Mr. Le Poy was married twice and is survived bv his wife. There are two sons _ and two daughters of his first marriage. The managing-director of E. Le Poy, Limited, Mr. Edward Le Poy, of Okere Falls,' Potorua, and Mr. Emilius Le Poy, of Great Barrier Island, are brothers. MR. R. N. GORDON The death has occurred of Mr. Pobert Newton Gordon, aged 8.3, at the residence of his son, 5 Linwood Avenue, Mpunt Albert. Born in Londonderry, Ireland, Mr. Gordon came to Now Zealand in the steamer Tongariro in 1884. After working in the southern gold fields for a few years he joined the Union Steam Ship Company at Dunedin in 1891. After many years service \with this company ho retired and toured England and the Continent. On his return he joined the staff of an auctioneering firm in Duncdin, continuing in this employment for some years before failing eyesight compelled him to relinquish this position. His wife, predeceased him six years ago. He is survived by three sons. There are ten grandchildren. MRS. P. L. POTTER The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Polly Louisa Potter, wife of the late Pev. W. S. Potter, at the age of 81. Mrs. Potter had been a resident of Auckland for the greater part of the last 45 years, her husband having been minister at Methodist churches in different parts of Auckland. Mrs. Potter arrived at Lyttelton 58 years ago from Cambridgeshire, England, where she was born, and was married in Christchurch in 1898. She was particularly well known at Richmond Avenue Methodist Church, where her husband was minister before his retirement in 1918. Mrs. Potter had few interests outside the church, where her generosity and kindness endeared her to all with whom she came into contact. She is survived by one stepdaughter. MR. L. L. KIRKOALDY / > • [by TEIiEGIIArFI —OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Wednesday Tho death has occurred jpf Mr. Leslie Leven Kirkcaldy, who in his day was both a prominent footballer and oarsman. .Mr. Kirkcaldy was born in 1872 at Mornington, and on completing -his education at the Otago Boys' High School he joined his father in the Provident Life Assurance Company and later joined tho National Mutual Life Association. Tho deceased lived in Dunedin for tho greater part of his life, but was in Wellington for a year or two as a young man. While there he played for tho Wellington Football Club and was also; a. member of the Star Boating Club. Jn 1892 Mr. Kirkcaldy linked up with the Otago Rowing Club. Although Rugby and rowing were his greatest interests, as a young man ho was a very good amateur boxer, and ho earned distinction in tho heavy-weight class. MR. JOHN OGG [by TEI.ECRA.rn OWN CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Wednesday The death has occurred, at the age of 91, of Air. John Ogg, who was well known (50 years ago as an outstanding competitor at Caledonian sports, and later as an official of tho Caledonian Society of Otago. On many occasions in Scotland he filled second place to the famous athlete Donald Dinnie, and he was ateo widely known in bowling circle#.
