MAIL CONTRACTS

TRIENNIAL RENEWALS LARGE NUMBER INVOLVED The Postal Department is inviting tenders for mail road services in respect of contracts that expire on December t3l next. About 7S contracts are included in the Auckland postal district, 25 in Hamilton and 10 in Thames. For the purposes of inland mail services New Zealand is divided into three areas. One of these comprises the districts mentioned, one is the rest of the North Island and the remaining one the whole of the South Island. Mail contracts operate for three years and it is necessary to make fresh contracts in successive years in each of the three areas. The numbers mentioned in the Auckland, Hamilton and Thames postal districts comprise only those contracts in respect of which it was not possible to make satisfactory arrangements from the department's point of view for renewal or where changes have been made that vary the coverage under present contracts. The new contracts will take effect from January 1 next.
