CONFIRMATION LACKING
STORY OF LOST GELIGNITE NO REPORT TO POLICE Neither the loss of a parcel of explosives nor its discovery had been reported to the police at Auckland last night when inquiries were made concerning a report from Christchurch that a resident of that city had mislaid a parcel of gelignite, detonators and fuses on a recent visit here and had been unable subsequently to locate it. It is considered likely that if a quantity of explosives, such as was described in the reports from Cliristchurch, was found it would come into the possession of the police. A thorough survey of the narrow thoroughfares adjoining Queen Street vesterdav afternoon suggested several sites which bore some resemblance to the localitv where the parcel was said to have been deposited and which was described in vague detail by the Christchurch visitor. However, there was no place which adequately answered the essential points mentioned in the visitor's account.
