UNSETTLED WITH BAIN TEMPERATURES MODERATE The weather report and forecast f op New Zealand issued by the Govern. • ment meteorologist last evening "were as follows: —Pressure is still high to thenorth and north-east, but has fallen considerably in. the south under th o influence of the first of a scries of westerly depressions which is advancing ucross the Tasrnan Sea. The forecast is for north to west winds, moderate to strong generally,. and rising ~ times to gale force in plac&s about and south of Cook Strait. Seas rough south of New Plymouth and in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas; elsewhere slight to moderate but rising north of New Plymouth. Eastern Tasman Seaj Moderate to strong north to west winds and rather rough to rough seas. The weather is likely to be unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect, with rain at times and some heavy falls on the west coast of the South Island. Later rain extending to scattered parts of eastern districts of the South Island Temperatures moderate.
SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST SCATTERKD PAINS PHOBABLE ■ ■ *2 The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkrald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong winds between north and west. The weather is likely to be fine at first, but with increasing cloud and scattered rains probable during Tuesday. Temperatures moderate. Seas slight to moderate, but rising somewhat, especially on the west coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Another day of fine, sunny weather, with a light and vari-i üble wind, was experienced. The night was clear and fine. The maximum- temperature was 56 degrees and the minimum 42 degrees. Barometric pressure fell slightly. Baromeler, midnight, steady .. '30.27 in. Midnight, Sunday .. .. 30.45 in. Wellington. —The weather was fine and sunny in the morning, but-over-cast in the afternoon, with a squally north-westerly wind.,,- Temperatures were mild, the majuihum being 52.8 degrees. The baf-orneter reading at 3 p.m. was 30.101 in. Christchurch. —The day was fine, sunny and mild, the maximum temperature being 62.5 degrees. A fresh north-west wind prevailed. The barometer fell slowly to 29.95 in. at 5 p.m. Dunedin.—Bright sunshine was again experienced yesterday and temperatures were mild, the maximum being 61 degrees. There was a light air from the north-east. The barometer, after falling sharply at mid-day, was later steady at 30.00 in.
