THE ANT CONTROVERSY " Northland," in tho Bay of Islands, writes to say that she Btrongly disagrees with our correspondent, " Repairs Needed," who maintains that the appearance of ants in a house is invariably duo to tho presence of decayed wood. The same applied to a practically new house of her mother's. In her own case, she was supplied by a chemist with a splendid preparation to dispose of tho trouble, but as sho did not send her name, L cannot put correspondents in touch with her. Vinegar from a "Plant" In answer to a reader's inquiry, M.H. savs: Put the vinegar "plant" in a jar, preferably of earthenware, add 21b. ot coarse sugar, 21 b. treacle and 2 quarts of water. Cover the jar closely and place in a warm place for 3 months. Then pour off the liquid, bring it to the boil for about 5 minutes, then strain it and bottle for use. Return the "plant" to the jar with a fresh supply of treacle, sugar and water, to act again for a similar period and form a further supply. Waffle Irons
