RUGBY TEST
BRISBANE MATCH TO-DAY'S CONTEST ALL BLACKS V. AUSTRALIA TOURING TEAM FAVOUEED The second Rugby test match between the All Blacks and Australia will be played at Brisbane this afternoon, when, after their easy win in the first test at Sydney' a fortnight ago the All Blacks will be strongly favoured for the honours. A win for the All Blacks to-day will decide the destiny of the Blodisloe Cup, which is at present held by the touring team. In the first test match the All Blacks were successful by, 24 points to 9, Australia failing to cross its opponents' line. With a view to strengthening .the home team to-day the Australian selectors have made several changes from the fifteen which was defeated in the first test. In the backs three new players are included, Moran wing-three-quarter, Collins, five-eighths, and Ramalli, halfback. Four new forwards are also included. No changes have been made in the All Blacks team, the selectors evidently being well satisfied with the form of the players. The teams for to-day's match are as follows: — ALL BLACKS Fullback. —Taylor. Threequarters. Morrison, Mitchell, Phillips. Five-eighths.—Sullivan, Berghan. Halfback. —Saxton. Forwards. BRITISH TEAM'S TOUR TEST AGAINST SPRINGBOK? : JOHANNESBURG MATCH TO-DA L • 1 The first test match of the Britisi Rugby team's tour of South Africa wil be' played .against the Springboks at ' ! Johannesburg to-day. In view of th( ' number of victories of the British 1 team, over provincial and countrj sides on the tour to date, onlj 5 three matches being lost, opinion | slightly favours the tourists, although 1 it is a well-known fact that th< - Springboks have been invincible to aj b comers on their own ground over l 3 period of nearly 40 years. The British r team's record to date is very good con , sidering the. amount of travel done bj } the players. 3 One notable success of the British r fifteen was that against Transvaal which was beaten by 17 points to 9, 3 This is meritorious when it is con 3 sidered that about half the home tean t comprised Springbok test players. Th( d result of the rubber holds partiettlaj 1 interest for New Zealanders on accouni 1 of the All Blacks' visit to South. Africa 3 in 1940.
