| CRICKET OR FOOTBALL CASE OF DENIS COMPTON [from a special correspondent] LONDON, July 20 An England and Middlesex cricketer and Arsenal forward, Denis Compton, must within the next few weeks make an important decision affecting his future career. Ho must answer the question: Cricket or football?'Ho will have to decide whether or not to terminate his football career so as to concentrate on cricket. To attempt to emulate Patsy Hendren and play both games will be difficult, if not impossible. By the middle of August all League, footballers will have reported for training. Compton is on the Arsenal list and it is felt that he has great potentialities as a winger. It is believed that he is. marked down as worth £BOOO to his club in tho event of a transfer. Since signing on for Middlesex his cricket has improved to such an extent that he is now, generally recognised as one of the most promising batsmen in the world. There are important cricket tours next winter and Compton is certain to be invited to take part in one.
