IMPROVED CONDITIONS PROMOTION AND PAY British Wireless RUGBY, July 31 _ Certain improvements in the conditions of officers of the Royal Air Force have been made public. Scales of pay to Squadron-Leaders and Commanders md to Air Commodores are affected. The promotion of Flying-Officers of the general duties branch to FlightLieutenants after two years' service, which had been given as a temporary Measure, Trill be the standard practice W future. Instead of being placed on half pay during intervals between appointments, officers will be retained on Ml Pay and allow ances. The normal maximum ages of retireloent for Air Chief-Marshals and Air •fcshals will be reduced from 65 to W, and those oLWing-Commandera and ''Quadron-Leaders will be raised from *8 and 45 to 50 and 47 respectively. defence from raids NEW APPOINTMENT BRITISH HIGHER COMMAND LONDON, July 31 It is announced that Major-General Marshall-Cornwall has been appointed Deputy-chief of the Imperial General Staff, anti-aircraft defences, as part of the creation of a higher command, air raid defences. ,The appointment coincides with the French creation of an Air Defence Board.
