HASTINGS STABLES

WIDELY REPRESENTED

TEAMS AT ALL FIXTURES CHANCES OF NINO MARTINI [ 11V TKfiKfiHAl'lf —OWN CO It HKSI'ONDKNT] HASTINGS, Friday At the lour nice meetings to-morrow in the .North and South Islands, Hastings stables will lie represented. The largest team is engaged at tlio .Manauatu Hunt meeting and had it not been lor this meeting more from here would have made the trip to Gisborne, so that the granting of an extra permit to the .Mananatn Hunt had an effect on the Poverty Bay fixture.

Padishah will race in the I.ongbeach Hurdles at I'iccarton,. and his showing will be eagerly awaited. liido will do battle for Hawke's Bay at the Taranaki meeting and on Jiis last two schooling essays, he appears to he at the peak ol his form and his supporters are very keen on his chances at -New Plymouth.

'lres Sec, ( mpire, Salon, I'eil Hufus, P.'ikanui, Kikiroki, Hoyal Toast, .Nino Martini, Bang Bang. Trailer, Karl's Court, Ileasonable and llaile Selassii l

all left to-day for Palinerston .North. J res Sec, who claims engagement iu the Bracelet, has contested three races ol this description of late, to win two and run second in the other, so that ho can handle the conditions and is tlio torni horse lor to-morrow's trophy race, when Mr. G. G. Beatson will have tlio mount again. L-mpire, who is in tlio same race, is doubly engaged. Salon Should be Improved

At tlii' Hauke's Hay Hunt meeting, Salon ran a good race in the amateur riders' event, while his condition lasted and il that race has benefited him as much as is supposed, the Leighton gelding is a decided possibility.

I'ed llufus was second to LoVelilt at .Hastings a. fortnight ago and the race is sure to have done linn good. Nevertheless, against his weight, his form hardly compares with that of some of the opposition in the Hack Hurdles. Pakanui will start iu the Open Handicap, but his form has been poor. A quartette from Hastings will go to the post in the Hunt Cup, including the Hauke's Bay Hunt Cup winner, Kikiroki. Since that victory, he lias gone'on the right way. With his jumping ability and pace, lie must go very close to scoring again. Hoyal Toast, when looking to possess winning chances both ill the Dannevirke and Hauke's Hay Hunt Cups, had a stirrup leather break. As different jockeys, with different gear, had the mounts, it was a coincidence. The heavy going may not suit him at Awapuni. Point-to-Point Winners Nino Martini was not started in the Hauke's Hay Hunt Cup. Last Saturday he easily won a point-to-point in a good class, and of to-morrow's quartette, he is thought to bo the most likely to win. lie is a five-year-old gelding by Cockpit form llinekapua. Hang Hang is purely of the hunting type, with no more speed than the average hunter, hut lie is expected to jump without a mistake. Last Saturday, he won the heavy-weight point-to-point and then came out in the next event, the hunters' trial, to win that also. Trailer is engaged in the Hack Cup and the manner in which he won over the same distance, at Hastings indicates a chance of success, although tho opposition to-morrow is stronger.

Karl's Court, who has won one maiden race, is assessed 101b. above the minimum. Reasonable, who is of the same age but has two races to his credit, receives weight from Karl's Court. In s|iite of the'outstanding form of Shining Hours, Keasonable's supporters are sanguine. In the same race is llailo Selassie, whose one success was achieved on the same course in the early autumn.

CUP FAVOURITES SPUING PROSPECTS IMPORTATIONS PREFERRED C.ROjrCK WINS COMFORTABLY [khom orr own corrksponukxt] SYDNEY, July JO Sydney racegoers were provided with ready alternatives to racing last Saturday in the All Blacks-Australia test match and the open golf championship. The card at Kensington comprised seven events, and although the programme was a poor one, there was a record attendance. The live and a-half furlong sprint course is very tricky and speculators, attracted by the likelihood of several "good things," met their usual late.

An outsider in Lady Curie won the t.wo-vear-old event, decided over a mile, because she was out of the scrimmaging in front of her field. The \ eilniond colt, Gambier, who finished third, probably would have won easily on an ordinary track. Alan Verde, one of the best middledistance horses racing at the present time, won the open mile event lrom Assai, who bolted for another three miles before O'Sullivan could pull liini up. A veterinary examination ordered by the stipendiary stewards revealed no sign of any drugs. Kan Tan, an Iliad lilly, finished third in ono of the Flying Welter divisions. She is not likely to lake high rank. Crojick, a Siegfried—Top Klier colt, was produced for the lirst time at Mooneo Valley. Ho raced in the name of Mrs. F. .J. Nathan, and as his trainer, Lou Robertson, makes few mistakes, the bookmakers were careful. Crojiek was well in the betting market and won easily by two and a-half lengths. Vei|ed Prophet, a useful Veilmond colt, in the lirst heat of the juvenile event at, Moonce Valley. He started a sound favourite and had raced well previously in open company. Desert Chief, whose manners have improved, was beaten narrowly last Saturday by the three-year-old Hathersage, who is by Speartelt. In his last four races, he lias not run badly and has won twice.

Gold Hod has been .supported for the .Metropolitan in doubles, beginning with his stableniate, Denis. Last year Gold Hod won the Epsom Handicap, but'apparently it is hoped he will stay better this year. His trainer, (J. Price, also has Spear Chief for big spring events.

So far, tilt* Sydney double lias attracted inucli less attention than that for the two cups in Melbourne. Aja\ lias not. thrown off his lameness and lie lias been passed in the Caulfield Cup market by Avenger, who was supported last week with Mristol for approximately COd.OOt). Avenger last spring defeated Mini and Ajax in the Derby at Mandwick, in which Bristol also started. Mristol is one of \Y. Kelso's team and is being handled in similar fashion to Statesman, with whom Kelso won his last Melbourne Cup. The four nominal favourites for the Melbourne Cup are Klanage and Royal Chief, from New Zealand, Oenetont, from France, and Spear Chief, from Queensland, a strange position in a Victorian event, but one which may change a great deal before November.
