BOWLING NOTES

WINTER COMPETITIONS CHALLENGE FIXTURES The Denison Pins did not remain long in Onehunga's possession, tlic holders losing the trophies in the first challenge match with J v Findlay's Mount Eden rink. The challengers led from start to finish, and were seven .points up with the last head to plav. On the last head, Oneliunga scored three points, and was defeated by ID points to 15. The Onehiingft team consisted of A. Gatland, I'ople, Grace and F. Livingstone. The respective leads, Gatland and 0. Moon, had a hard battle, and there was little to choose between them at any stage of the game. L. .Toll was a shade too good for Pople, but the latter played fairly consistently. The Oneliunga number three, Grace, was not on his game, and his failure threw extra responsibility on the Oneliunga skip's shoulders. The next challenge is from the Ponsonby Club, with J. Griffiths as skip of the team. R. Thomas, Mount Albert, added another victory to his list of successes in the Edwin Stars challenge match with the Hawhiti Club. Tho Mount Albert team has had a particularly good run of successes in this com|>otition, and has worked up a combination which future challengers will find difficult to overcome. The Hawhiti challengers, in tho charge of Hutler, provided strong opposition, the filial scores reading 25 —20 in Mount Albert's favour. The holders scored on 11 heads, to their opponent's ten. Mount Albert opened its account with a two, and on the fourth head the scores were four-all. Kven play followed to the eighth head. On the ninth head, Mount Albert secured a four, and another one on the 12th head, and, following on with two twos, made the scores 20—10, with seven heads to play. Two threes and a single to Hawhiti put the challengers in the running again, and they were only four down with three heads to play. However, Mount Albert scored a three on the 19th head, to put the issuo beyond doubt. The Hawhiti skip, who has had very little experience, must be given credit for a good display against a player of Thomas' calibre. The next challenger is F. Dyson, Hallyburton-Joiuistone.
