NEGLIGENT DRIVING
WOMAN MOTORIST FINED ACCIDENT WHEN LEARNING [FROM OUR OWN' CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Monday A collision between a motor-car and a bicycle at the intersection of Commerce Street and Norton Road, I'rankton, on May 22 had its sequel in tho Police Court to-day, when Elinor Margaret Home, of Hamilton, appeared before Messrs. J. R. low and G. K. Sinclair, J.P.'s, on a charge of negligent driving. Eileen Casey, aged 17, of Frankton, the rider of the bicycle, said she had been a little more than halfway across the intersection when she first saw the car driven by defendant, which was then close to the centre of the intersection. Witness was travelling at a slow pace. She did not hear a horn sounded. Defendant said in evidence that she was learning to drive and had no driver's licence. She submitted that she obeyed the right-hand rule by slowing down and giving way to the cyclist on her right-hand side. AVitness admitted having been a little bustled when the cyclist seemed indecisive as to what to do. . . _ .
" You did not obey the right-hand rule because you did not stop and give way to the cyclist who was on your right," said Sergeant T. Kelly, who prosecuted. "You are a danger and a menace on the road." Defendant was convicted and fined £1 and costs.
