INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Aka Aka. —At the monthly meeting the members of the Pukeowaro institute were the puests of honour. Mrs. J. K. Hull presided. The monthly competitions were won by Mesdames Clark and S. Neil, of Pukeoware, and the points prize by Miss Joyce Lauden, with Miss Isobel Lauden second. Items were given by Mrs. Lawson and Miss Grace Allcock, of Pukeoware, and bouquets were presented to Mesdames Goodwin, Lawson and Ballantyne and Miss Allcock. The hostesses for afternoon tea wore Mesdames H. Wright, A. Ballantyne, Aylward and Sinclair and M isses E. and B. McCarthy, with Mrs. Lauden as receiving hostess. Glenbrook. —Mrs. Gearon presided and welcomed the members and visitors. The junior members sang choruses, and Mrs. Hay demonstrated the making of wool rugs. The visiting speaker was Mrs. Blair, of Pukekohe, lier subject being children's health and first-aid. The winners of the competitions were Mesdames McCrystal and Williams and Miss Hodgkinson. Panmure-Mount Wellington. Mrs. Coates presided at the monthly meeting. A demonstration of rug making was given by Mrs. Woodward, of Ellerslie. The monthly competition was won by Mrs. Carnachan, with Mrs. Neels second.

Tuakau. —The monthly meeting took the form of a visitors' afternoon. Among the visitors were Mrs. K. Orr, the president of the Pukekawa branch of the Women's Division of' the Farmers' Union, and Mrs. Hichings, secretary of the Buekland institute. An item was given by Mrs. Primrose, and Mrs. W. 0. Hewitt won the competition. Tho hostesses were Mesdames Primroso, Hewitt and Maleomson.

Papatoetoo.—Mrs. Barker presided at the monthly meeting and Miss Manktelow gave a talk on gardening. Work with papier mache was demonstrated by Mrs. Knowles. Tho competitions were won by Mesdames Long and Dash.

Walton. —Tho sixth birthday social of the institute was < held recently. Dance music was provided by Miss M. Ryan and "Mr. A. Lowry, Mrs. Barlow and Miss J. Murray playing the extras. During tho evening Miss Murray sang. The winners or the card tournament wore Mrs. J. Paterson and Mr. Corbett. Miss P. Paterson, Miss M. Lock, Mr. F. Livingstone and Mr. H. Franklin won the prizes for novelty dances.

Waihi. —An address was given by tho president. Mrs. A. Blackmoro, at tho monthly meeting. A play was presented, the members taking part being Mesdiimos Gibson, Blackmoro, Cornthwaite, Lyon, Den by, Thomson, liollis and Pollock.

New F<ynn.—The monthly meeting took tin* form of a bring-and-huy afternoon. all the stalls being well patronised. The competitions were won by Mesdames Bolei and Wells. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mesdames Brickley, lirenner and J)anka.
