OHAKUNE COUNCIL'S ACTION [FROM OUR OWN CORRFISPONDKXTJ OHAKUNE, Tuesday I iiT tn i an effort to assis t the Public \\ orks Department and to relieve men who would otherwise be transferred to the backblocks, where camps are being erected, the Ohakune Borough Council had decided to take 40 married men in its employ, the wages being paid I through the Employment Promotion Fund bv the Labour Department, Owing to the question of continuity r>t service arising, the Mayor of Ohakune, Mr. H. Delamar, and the town clerk. Mr, S. Torepe, attended a meeting of the men concerned. The majority 'if men present intimated their willingness to enter the employ of the council. It was, however, pointed out by the .Mayor that, immediately the men came on to borough works they would automatically- sever their connections with the Public Works Department and that i their time in regard to continuity of service would cease.
