WOMAN CARRIED 150 YARDS CYCLING OVER CROSSING HUSBAND AWAY FROM HOME [by telegraph—press, association] ASHB/JRTON. Friday A woman was killed instantly by an express train at a level crossing on the outskirts of the town this afternoon. The victim wan Mrs. Mary Kissane, of Ashburton, aged 55. Mrs. Kissane was cycling over the crossing when the engine struck her, carrying the body 150 yards before it was pulled up. Th« bicycle was broken to pieces and liuried into a creek 30 yards from t/no crossing. Mr. Kissane, husband of the deceased, is at, present in Levin. They have no children.
