DEATH IN 100 TH YEAR
MRS. CATHARINE HENWOOD MANGERE DISTRICT PIONEER The death occurred yesterday at her home in Massey Road, Mangere, of one of Auckland's oldest settlers, Mrs. Catharine Ann Henwood, in her 100 th year. Mrs. Henwood, who celebrated her 99th birthday on May 8, was born in Cornwall, and came to New Zealand with her parents, the late Mr. and
Mrs. William Nicholls, in the ship Bank of England when she was 16 years of age, the famliy being one of the first to settle in the Parnell district. At the age of 18, Mrs. Henwood married Mr. Thomas Henwood. They lived for two years at Matakana and then moved to the Mangere district, where they built their home. Following the death of her husband in 1878, Mrs. Henwood carried on the management of the farm, assisted by her sons. She milked a portion of the herd of cows until she was 80 years of age.
