DARING GOWNS
FASHIONS AT COURT ONE "LIKE BEACH COSTUME" NECKLINES CAUSE SURPRISE STEPS TAKEN FOR FUTURE By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received July 7, 11.55 p.m.) LONDON, July 7 The fashions at last night's third Royal Court at Buckingham Palace caused members of the Court circles to raise their eyebrows, says the Daily Mail. One debutante's dress resembled a beach costume with brassiere and skirt; that of another had an extremely low back, and a third had a 16th-century square neckline that was lower than any seen at Court since the Victorian off-the-shoulder gowns. It is understood steps aro being taken to ensure that gowns will fulfil tho tradition of being attractive Without being undiijv sensational. The King sat on the Throne alone in tho uniform of a field-marshal. The sniallness of tho Poyal circle indicated mourning for the Queen's mother. Only tho Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Helena Victoria, Princess Alice and the Countess of Athlone were present. Many women carried ostrich feathers instead of posies.
