FLOWER COMPETITION
WAITEM ATA SOCIETY The second annual meeting of the Waitemata Horticultural Society was held in the Nortlieote Returned Soldiers' Hall. Mr. J. L. Hanna presided. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. D. P. O'Leary; vicepatrons, Messrs. E. J. Osborne (Mayor of Birkenhead). J. Prickett and L. S. Maxwell; president, Dr. K. H. Holdgate; vice-president, Mr. J. L. Hanna; secretary, Mr. H. N. Leefe; assistantsecretary, Mrs. H. N. Leefe; committee, Mesdames F. G. Biackwell, J. L. Hanna, J. Prickett," A. Oldburv, F. H. Woodhouse, E. A. Campbell, K. R. Taylor, A. Satchell, H. N. Leefe. Misses M. E. Shutes, G. Bell, Dr. C. W. Parr, Messrs. W. J. Wernham, F. A. Garry, A. E. Harding; auditor, Mr. A. W. Christmas; monthly show manager, Mrs. A. Satchell; judges. Messrs. D. P. O'Leary, A. E. Harding, W. J. Wernham and J. L. Hanna. The third members' points competition was inaugurated, beautiful flowers and fine specimens of fruit and vegetables being exhibited. The awards of the judges, Messrs. J. L. Hanna, D. P. O'Leary and A. E. Harding, were as follows: —Flowers: Mesdames P. Robertson. A. Oldbury, A. E. Harding. Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Leefe and Miss Collins, 10 points; Mrs. J. Crombie and Miss 31. E. Shutes. 9; Mesdames J. Prickett and A. Satchell, 8; and Mrs. I']. A. Campbell, 7. Fruit and vegetables: Mesdames J. Prickett, A. E. Harding, Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Leefe and Dr. C. W. Parr, 10 points; and Mrs. E. A. Campbell, 9. The special prize for the best collection of vegetables was awarded to Mrs. A. Oldbury.
