LIVING COSTS
Sir, —Your correspondent Mr. T. Edwards only partly states Ihe facts. True, the rents of Government houses in England are. low, but Mr. Edwards forgets to mention that they are heavily subsidised by the Government,, as it is impossible to build a decent houst> at a rental which the worker can afford to pay. And what of wages? The town worker averages L'2 10s per week, while the wretched farm labourer—married or single—gets 345. Compare these with New Zealand wages! To continue, sugar fid lb., milk 4d per pint and meat about double the price it is in New Zealand. EM 7. A B ETH M ACM IT,I,AN.
