The figure remains high in comparison with those recorded up to May in production seasons stretching hack to 1032-33. Imports are £7,84-1,000 higher in value than in the last production season. They are over £17.000.000 greater than in the first 11 months of 1935-36. The valuation is substantially more than double that for the same portion of the 1933-34 season. As a consequence of this increase in imports the balance over them of export values in the current, season, £2.046,000, is bv a considerable margin the smallest for any similar period during the past six production years. The most marked contrast is with 1933-34, when the excess of exports for 11 months was valued at £20.872.000. The figures for the 11 months, compared with those in the five previous seasons, are: Jtilv- Exportii Imports Excess May £ C € 1932-33 40.501.000 27.304,000 13.227,000 1033-34 45,840,000 2-1.074,000 20,872,000 1034-35 30,720.000 31.045.000 7,781.000 1035-30 40,438,000 30,025,000 13,413 000 1030-37 50.128.000 40,1 iO,OOO '13,012,000 1037-38 5(5,006,000 53,000,000 2,016,000 j Exports of specie during Mav, excluded from the figures previously given, were valued at £250, and imports at £ll6O.
