DEATH OF MR. D. JOHNSTON FORMER TARANAKI PLAYER [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday The death has occurred of Mr. David Johnston, of Okaiawa, one of Taranaki's best-known Rugby footballers. He represented Taranaki continuously tor 10 years from 1922 to 1932 and was a member of the All Black team that toured Australia in 1925, He played for the North Island against the South in 1923. It was with the Okaiawa Club that he had his chief association with the sport, for ho played football for 110 other club. As a leader and tactician his services were invaluable and he reached the peak of his career in club football when he led the Okaiawa senior team to victory in the Taranaki championship in what was practically his last year in the game. Upon his retirement from active participation in the game Mr. Johnston turned his attention to the administrative side and with his brother, Mr. W. Johnston, did much toward moulding Okaiawa teams into good combinations. Two years ago he was appointed South Taranaki representative on the Taranaki selection committee.
